I know some teachers who tried to teach science who were fired by their Boards of Education because the science they taught differentiated from religious thought. They just might disagree with you serr8d.

Science doesn't bash religion, people do though. Your pessism about the longevity of religion though is disappointing. The Europeans who are mainly responsible for the current problems associated with the three Bronze Age desert religions are now closing fast on refuting all of their past beliefs.

It's not that science is too controversial in America, it's that bashing religion in the name of science it too controversial in America. Whether or not you like or acknowledge it, religion both played a part in America's past and will continue to play a part in human endeavors long after America is crumbled into dust.

True, we atheists should have access to the same kinds of influence that the religious have. If that means giving money to politicians as a means of influencing law, then so be it.

But if you want to make an immediate impact, and get the participation atheists who would not otherwise involve themselves in "politics", you should publish an atheist voters guide. Athiests could reference this guide to see which politicians share their views on religious and quasi-religious issues such as church/state separation, abortion, stem-cell research, and so on. A simple questionaire sent to candidate's, and a survey of their voting records and rhetoric should be enough on which to base a rating.

With this information available to atheists, you will find that they will vote for those candidate's who have the highest "non-religious" rating; a process akin to natural selection, and not the kind of "artificial selection" that occurs from political money donations.

This 74 year old Agnostic Atheist Activist says:

1. Reader X, I say use your name or shut up!

2. Peter is RIGHT! Their idiot comments prove they are the type of people who we must do everything we can to KEEP OUT of office.

3. If the comment about "xenophobic war machine to kill foreigners" is talking about the Iraq War, it proves the person who made the comment is EITHER:

A. TOO LAZY to get off their ignorant butts and do sufficent research of the many FACTS which more than prove the Iraq war is FULLY JUSTIFIED,

OR

B. IS too dumb to be able to fully comprehend what little things like FACTS mean.

OR,

C. BOTH of the above.

ReaderX

The Declaration of Values is very pertinent to the issues of ETV which is separation of religion and government. The values being declared are mainly to be realized through direct political action. Read the declaration, they want the decalogue posted in public facilities at our expense, marriage laws, censorship laws, right to own deadly weapons, laws to limit the jurisdiction of the judiciary in deciding cases involving religion, and limit taxes for the exact purpose to end public education in this country. This is all the reasons that a PAC was started to help elect people who would not allow the religious extremists to take over and make us like Iran.

You really should contain commentary to those issues which directly affect atheism itself. Otherwise, you risk marginalizing the entire PAC as merely left-of-MoveOn. We should practice what we preach: focus on atheism, maintain bipartisanship on all other issues.

That I happen to agree with much of your take on the Liberty Counsel is not relevant to the purpose of this blog/organization.

Stay focused or lose.

[...] If this bill passes, it will most likely backfire on Christians. It’s highly likely that within the next generation or two the majority religion in America will be Muslim — and then what will America’s Spiritual Heritage Week be celebrating in our schools? Islam’s victory over three hundred years of spiritual darkness in America? Does this sound far-fetched? Have a look at this.
